Clearwater Beach Parking Guide: Lots, Costs & Smart Alternatives
Every Clearwater Beach parking option compared — city lots, Sand Key, free Park & Ride, trolley, ferry, and rideshare. Costs, when lots fill, and local tips.

Parking on Clearwater Beach is the one thing that can make or break your day before you even hit the sand. On a summer Saturday, beach lots fill by 10 AM, the causeway backs up, and you can spend 30 minutes circling for a spot. But it doesn't have to be that way — if you know where to go, when to arrive, and when to skip the beach lots entirely.
This guide covers every parking option on Clearwater Beach, what it costs, when it fills, and the alternatives that locals actually use.
Quick Comparison: Clearwater Beach Parking
| Option | Cost | Walk to Beach | Good For |
|---|---|---|---|
| City beach lots (Gulfview/Coronado) | $3.50/hour | 0-2 min | Short stays, if you arrive early |
| On-street metered parking | $4/hour | Varies | Quick stops |
| Sand Key Park | $6/day | On the beach | All-day beach days, sunset watching |
| Downtown garages + Park & Ride | Free parking, $2-5 trolley | 15-20 min via trolley | Budget-conscious, peak season |
| Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) | $15-25 from downtown | 0 min | No-stress arrival |
| Clearwater Ferry | $8 round trip | Drops at marina | Fun alternative, avoids causeway traffic |
Beach Parking Lots: What You Need to Know
City Beach Lots
Cost: $3.50 per hour Locations: Multiple lots along Gulfview Blvd and Coronado Dr, plus the Pier 60 area Payment: Pay stations or ParkMobile app Hours: Enforced daily during posted hours
The city-operated beach lots are the closest parking to the sand, which means they fill first. On weekends in March through August, expect these lots to be full by 10 AM. On weekdays, you usually have until 11 AM or noon.
Key lots:
- Pier 60 lot — Central, closest to the sunset celebration and marina restaurants. Fills fastest.
- Coronado Dr lots — Near the Hilton and north Clearwater Beach hotels. Good for accessing the north beach section.
- South Gulfview lots — Near Shephard's and the south beach. Good for Frenchy's Rockaway Grill and Jimmy's on the Edge.
Important: Some city beach lot spaces have a 2-hour time limit. If you're planning a full beach day, check the posted sign at your spot — getting a ticket is a fast way to ruin the afternoon.
On-Street Metered Parking
Cost: $4 per hour Locations: Mandalay Ave, Gulfview Blvd, side streets Payment: Pay stations or ParkMobile app
Street parking runs the same rate as the lots but can be harder to find. The side streets off Mandalay (north Clearwater Beach) sometimes have spots when the main lots are full. Read the signs carefully — residential permit zones are enforced.
The Smart Alternative: Park & Ride
PSTA Free Park & Ride
Cost: Free parking + trolley fare Parking location: Downtown Clearwater (112 S. Garden Ave and other lots) Drop-off: Clearwater Beach Season: Offered during peak season (spring/summer) — check psta.net for current dates
PSTA runs a free Park & Ride program in partnership with the City of Clearwater. You park for free in downtown Clearwater, hop on the trolley, and get dropped off on Clearwater Beach. This is the move during peak season when beach lots are full and the causeway is backed up.
Source: psta.net, checked August 2026. Program runs seasonally — confirm availability before your visit.
PSTA Suncoast Beach Trolley
Cost: $2-5 per ride (fare varies by zone) Route: Runs daily along the barrier islands from Clearwater Beach to Tarpon Springs Website: psta.net
The Suncoast Beach Trolley connects Clearwater Beach to all the Gulf Beaches. If you're staying anywhere along the coast, the trolley is cheaper than parking and drops you right on the beach.
Clearwater Ferry
Cost: Approximately $8 round trip Route: Downtown Clearwater to Clearwater Beach Marina Website: clearwaterferry.com
The Clearwater Ferry runs from downtown Clearwater to the Clearwater Beach Marina, dropping you within walking distance of Pier 60, the marina restaurants, and the main beach. It's a fun alternative to driving the causeway and a good option if you're combining a downtown visit with a beach day.
Sand Key Park: The $6 All-Day Option
Location: 1060 Gulf Blvd, Clearwater (across the Clearwater Pass bridge) Cost: $6 per vehicle (honor box) Hours: Daily, sunrise to sunset
Sand Key Park is the top parking value near Clearwater Beach. For $6 total — not per hour — you get all-day parking at a beach that's just as nice as Clearwater Beach, with a fraction of the crowds. The park has restrooms, outdoor showers, and picnic areas.
The catch: Sand Key is across the bridge from Clearwater Beach. If your destination is Pier 60 or the marina restaurants, you'll need to drive back over (5 minutes) or walk the beach north. But if you're planning a beach day or a sunset watch, Sand Key's $6 all-day rate beats $3.50/hour on the beach.
Backwaters on Sand Key and Columbia Restaurant on Sand Key are both near the park if you want lunch or dinner without driving back to Clearwater Beach.
Rideshare: Skip Parking Entirely
Uber and Lyft operate extensively on Clearwater Beach. From downtown Clearwater, expect $15-25 to the beach depending on demand. From Tampa International Airport, expect $30-50.
The advantage: no parking, no walking, no circling. The disadvantage: surge pricing during peak hours and events, and pickup can be slow on busy nights (especially after the Pier 60 sunset celebration ends).
Local tip: If you're going for dinner or sunset, take a rideshare to the beach and plan to wait 10-15 minutes for your pickup after. The surge pricing after sunset on weekends can double the fare — if you can walk a few blocks from Pier 60 to a less busy pickup point, you'll get a car faster and cheaper.

Parking Tips from Locals
-
Arrive before 9 AM on summer weekends. If you want a beach lot spot, you need to be there early. After 10 AM, head straight to the Park & Ride or Sand Key.
-
Download ParkMobile before you go. The app works for all city beach lots and on-street meters. Setting up your account in advance saves 5 minutes of frustration at the pay station while the sun is beating down.
-
Don't double-park or park in hotel lots. Hotels on Clearwater Beach actively tow non-guests. It's not worth the $200 tow bill.
-
Sand Key is the secret. If you just want a beach day and don't need to be on Clearwater Beach specifically, Sand Key's $6 all-day parking is the strongest deal in the area. Same white sand, same Gulf water, no crowds.
-
Plan your exit. Leaving Clearwater Beach between 4-6 PM on a Saturday is a 30-45 minute crawl across the causeway. Have dinner on the beach instead — check our Clearwater Beach Restaurants Guide for options — and leave after 7 PM when traffic dies down. Several restaurants run happy hour specials that make waiting out the traffic more pleasant — see our Happy Hour Guide.
-
Bike or walk if you're staying nearby. Many hotels on Clearwater Beach rent bikes, and the beach walk spans the entire length of the island. If your hotel is on the beach, you probably don't need to drive anywhere.
